Bishop Duppas is a very  friendly, enthusiastic and totally inclusive lawn bowls club. We have a very good mix of lady and gentleman members with a varied interest in the game. Between them they play the full spectrum of competitive bowls from National and County competitions, local league, friendly and club competitions to largely social and practice roll-ups on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

We welcome membership applications from experienced players and beginners alike. We  provide
each beginner with equipment, free membership and Tuesday afternoon coaching for 6 weeks. If they enjoy the experience and want to continue with the game, they can apply to become full members* paying a pro rata subscription for the remainder of the season which includes associate membership for the non-playing partners of full members.

Our season runs from late April to mid September when, in addition to playing bowls, members and their associate member partners are welcome to join us at our very sociable club nights. These are held every Tuesday evening when good use is made of our clubhouse and bar which form the back-drop to a programme of entertainments. Also, many members and their partners avail themselves of the opportunity to join our annual trip to another part of the country when they all travel by coach and usually stay at the same pre-booked hotel. Most days there is a match against a nearby club and activities are arranged for those not playing on the day
. This is considered by many members to be one of the social highlights of the year.

2017 Croquet Finals
Finally Croquet

Finally Croquet

The Bishop Duppas Croquet section rounded off its season with its Finals Day on 11th September. There were two competition trophies to be awarded. Winner of the Singles title this year was Daphne Heywood-Jones, who won a very tight game against opponent Ann Thomson. However, Ann was not to be disappointed for long as she and her partner, Margaret Clarke, were victors in the Doubles knock-out competition, beating Jackie Elliott and Anne Street in the final.

The Croquet Club presentation luncheon is being held at the clubhouse in October and playing will recommence at the end of April 2018 when the greens reopen for bowls. The club meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 2 - 4pm during the season and new members are always welcome. No experience is needed as tuition will be given.
